Membership

Who?

In short, anyone. Club membership ranges from beginners to internationals. The club has a healthy balance of adults and juniors, social and competitive fencers.

Coach education and training is also available to anyone wishing to take up coaching or to further their coaching knowledge.

Fencing proficiency award schemes are taught at the club for those fencers interested.

There is no minimum or maximum age for attending with there being active fencers from primary school aged children to those well beyond pensionable age. Parents should however note the times at which we meet, 8.00pm - 10.00pm, which may be unsuitable for some young children. The club requires that a parent/guardian remains with any under 18 attending.

New members are always welcome, whether you are new to the sport or have been fencing for a considerable time. Visitors from other clubs are also welcome. Stockport Sword Club has a flourishing working relationship with a number of clubs, with regular visits from fencers who also train at the Universities of Manchester, Chester, Salford & Liverpool, as well as from Trafford, Bolton & Royal Armouries Fencing Clubs, amongst others.

When?

The club meets on Wednesday evenings from 8.00pm to 10.00pm, excluding Bank Holidays. We are open all year round, including over the summer months.

Where?

The club meets at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village, adjacent to Broadstone Mill, Broadstone Road, Reddish, Stockport, SK5 7AT.

Please see the location page for full details.

If the club is not convenient for you but you are interested in fencing, please feel free to contact us & we will be more than happy to help you find a suitable club.

Coaching?

Qualified, experienced coaches are on hand to give lessons to any club fencer requesting them. See the coaching page for further details. If you are currently receiving lessons please ask your present coach if he/she minds you attending the club.

What Do I Need?

Equipment and coaching is provided for beginners. No previous experience is required. Simply turn up and have a go (You will need trainers, track suit bottoms or a pair of strong jeans, we would also recommend bringing a spare t-shirt & a water bottle).

The club has a number of electric scoring boxes available on training nights for fencers to use.

How Much?

The club charges £10 per session or £35 per month. This fee includes the use of the club's equipment and tuition for members.
